Sun Helicopter Charters and Services
is a new, truly Namibian organisation that
will, in future, provide unscheduled
helicopter services in Namibia. We have been
operating in the diamond industry in SA for
the past 13 years. As Kimberley Helicopter
Services we are one of the main service
providers to the diamond mining industry.
The two
owners of Sun Helicopter Charters
and Services, Gideon de Waal (CEO), and
Johan Jooste (Aircraft and Operations
Manager), after careful consideration and
research realised that Namibia could
definitely benefit from helicopter services.
On 7 March 2008 the Ministry of Works and
Transport approved the following three
licences:
-
Non-scheduled flights
-
Training and,
-
Aerial work
These licences
enable SHCS to offer a broad spectrum of
helicopter services. Services offered
include game capturing, game counting,
tourism, chartered flights (corporate,
mining, agriculture, tourism, private, etc.)
and more.
SHCS can assist the Namibian Wildlife
management sector as well as Namibian
farmers, specifically game farmers. They can
benefit and save a lot of time and money by
using helicopters. The company has a lot of
experience in game counting and all our
pilots have a special game rating on their
licences. Apart from counting we can also
assist with darting, immunizing and boma-capturing
of game. With the help of helicopters,
work
that usually takes days can now be completed
in one day. Helicopters are also the only
means of transport that can reach places
without having to land.
For the mining sector it has now suddenly
become possible to reach Trekkopje, Rössing
or Langer Heinrich mining areas in less than
half an hour. The company can also conduct
offshore work or heavy lifting when
required.
SHCS will also offer special services by
flying people to isolated Lodges that don’t
have their own landing strips. Film
production teams and photographers will also
not need to hire helicopters from
neighbouring countries anymore. SCHS can
also compile special packages for tourists
and other
clients with
unique needs.
SHCS maintains close links and a good
working relationship with all
the
stakeholders
in conservation. As qualified tour operators
and guides it is very important to us to
conserve nature in any way possible.
Helicopters can also be employed to observe
and photograph damage caused to our
environment.
SCHS will in future fill a huge gap in
Namibian aviation. We work closely with
Namibia’s Department of Civil Aviation and
will ensure a safe service of world
standards. SCHS operates from the Swakopmund
and Walvis Bay airports.
SHCS is a company built on sound business
principles that add value to the true
Namibian spirit. |
